The drive from the port to Cairo is approximately 2 & 1/2 hours each way, (depending on local traffic and contingencies). 

During our drive your private Egyptologist-Guide will provide an introduction to Egypt both ancient and modern.

Step back over 5000 years in time this morning as you motor through the lush Valley of the Nile to the site of ancient Memphis, - founded circa 3100 BC as the first capital of the newly United Kingdoms of Upper and Lower Egypt! This once glorious metropolis has vanished - and you will learn why, - but in the open-air museum at the site view evocative reminders of the time when Memphis was the city from which the entire known world was ruled!  Among these remnants are a stunning colossal fallen statue of Ramses the Great and an elegant alabaster sphinx.

Motor next from the green valley up onto the nearby desert plateau - to the vast and astonishing necropolis of Memphis, - spectacular Sakkara! - Here - truly “where architecture was born” - walk among the very first buildings in hewn stone in all history, - their centerpiece the soaring Step Pyramid of Pharaoh Zoser - first of all the pyramids! - Explore the noble courtyards and enchanting “dummy” buildings of this funerary complex of the pharaoh, designed by his Vizier-Physician-Architect Imhotep for the use of his God-King, not in this life, but in the Afterlife! Nearby, enter the tomb of a court figure of the Old Kingdom, the delightful carved and painted relief scenes in whose chapel gives a vivid picture of daily life at the dawn of history!

Lunch will be served at a famous Restaurant in Giza.

Drive through beautiful date palm plantations and up onto an almost secret area of the desert - to the remarkable Pyramids of Dahshur!

These stunning monuments were off limits to travelers for many years because they lay within the boundaries of a highly secured military base. Now, however, the military have agreed to move back, so that those interested in the evolution of our civilization can visit this very special place. - We survey first the strange “Rhomboidal” or “Bent” Pyramid of Pharaoh Sneferu, then his marvelous “Red” or “Northern” Pyramid, - the first “true” pyramid. - Scholars are puzzled as to why Seneferu built not one, but two burial monuments, - three if you count his work at Meidum. Your Egyptologist will relate this ongoing detective story and the search for its solution! - After our investigating the Red Pyramid from all sides, those who wish may enter the monument and make your way to its highly unusual Burial Chamber.

After the tour drive back to the pier escorted by your EE Travel Tour Host in plenty of time before your luxury ship leaves the dock.
