Ship arrives at the Alexandria pier.
Upon disembarkation meet your private
EE Travel Egyptologist-Guide and drive to the
Roman Amphitheater, here we visit the theater itself, new excavations of a Roman town, - and some of
the marvelous statues and architectural elements from Greek and Roman palaces and public buildings of the time of Cleopatra, - treasures just brought up from the sea off Alexandria by underwater archaeology teams!
Then drive to the Roman Catacombs of Kom El Shokafa, with their bizarre hybrid Egyptian-Classical art. - And we view the towering ancient obelisk miss-named by medieval travelers “Pompey’s Pillar”!
A photo stop will be made at the ancient Eastern Harbor and the colorful fishing fleet anchorage, to view the medieval Fort Qait Bey, a handsome citadel built during the Crusades - on the site of the ancient Ptolemaic Pharos Lighthouse, one of the classical Seven Wonders of the World.
Lunch at a famous seafood restaurant.
A short drive will be made to
“Bibliotheca Alexandrina” the Library of Alexandria.
The
Library of Alexandria was the largest library of the ancient world and the place where great philosophers and scientists of that age came to seek knowledge. Alexandria also hosted, at the time, the largest Jewish community in the world, and the Septuagint, the first Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, was written in the city.
Drive back to the pier to reembark your ship escorted by your
EE Travel Tour Host.
