Day 1

The days and nights are yours to enjoy at your leisure. Take a horseback ride to private waterfall picnic or enjoy a private dinner under the stars while you listen to the waves lap against the shore. The opportunities for romance are abundantly available and virtually unavoidable. Today you will depart your beautiful island paradise for the land of adventure, New Zealand. Arriving in Christchurch, you will transfer to a luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Christchurch, an elegant English style garden city. The hotel is renowned for its chic, luxurious style, passionate attention to detail and warm and friendly personalized service. Tonight’s dinnera at Pescatore will be one of your most memorable of the trip.

Day 6

This morning you will board the TranzAlpine train for one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. Traveling from one coast of New Zealand to the other, you’ll see the fields of the Canterbury Plains and farmland, followed by the spectacular gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River. Your train then climbs into the Southern Alps before descending through lush beech rain forest to the West Coast town of Greymouth. From here you will pick up your rental car to drive down the rugged west coast to the glacier region. Fox and Franz Josef Glacier towns are havens for the outdoors enthusiast with the only glaciers that slide through temperate rainforest in the world.

This morning you’ll ride a helicopter to the top of Franz Josef Glacier, and then have half a day to hike around on the ice. With crampons on the bottom of your boots and an ice pick in your hand, you’ll wander through blue ice crevasses and icy caves guided by an expert in glacial ecology and hiking. The glaciers are moving so quickly, that the terrain is different every day. Ride a helicopter back down to the bottom of the glacier, and then spend the rest of your day doing any number of additional activities: soaking in hot pools, viewing real live kiwi birds in a nocturnal kiwi house, hiking, horseback riding, or just enjoying the rugged feel of this remote town.

Drive through the most scenic part of New Zealand’s alpine scenery today as you make your way over the Haast Pass and its swimmable waterfalls to bustling Queenstown. A delight for scenery lovers and adrenaline junkies alike, Queenstown is the outdoor adventure capital of the country, if not the world. There are an endless supply of activities to fully experience the stunning natural landscape and to get your adrenaline flowing. The feeling is that of a small frontier town, with stunning mountains surrounding it and placid Lake Wakatipu alongside. Your home in Queenstown is a luxury lodge. Day 9

The morning is yours to enjoy at your leisure. In the afternoon, take a small-group boutique winery tour of the Otago wine region, especially well known for its earthy pinot noirs. Through the Gibbston Valley and through the rolling vine-clad foothills of Bannockburn and beyond, your vineyard selection will select those most appropriate for the day’s passengers. Four winery tastings are included, as well as a winery lunch and commentary on the early pioneering history of this rugged region.

A day devoted to spectacular scenery, you’ll enjoy a full day excursion to the spectacular Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park. You’ll drive the famous Milford Road, great for photo stops and history lessons about the pioneering days of New Zealand as you drive along a narrow highway with sheer cliffs on each side. On reaching Milford Sound, board a Nature Cruise for a leisurely itinerary that allows plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and wildlife. On board, a nature guide with specialist knowledge of the region’s history, flora and fauna provides detailed interpretation. View spectacular waterfalls (especially when it’s raining!), rainforest and towering peaks; plus, keep an eye out for fur seals, dolphins and penguins. Fly back over the fjords and land on a patch of snow in the Alps. Celebrate your tour of New Zealand with a glass of champagne and cheese while marveling at the scenery.

Drive to the airport in Queenstown to catch your flight to Auckland and then home.

This romantic getaway was planned for a couple who wanted to experience a rain forest but also have great wine tasting trips on their honeymoon. We sent them to five star luxury resorts in Fiji and New Zealand to give them glamorous and romantic destinations. Fiji, with its palm-fringed beaches and endless opportunities for private moments, was perfect for their beach and rain forest experience. They then moved to the South Island of New Zealand to experience the rugged mountains and natural beauty of the country. New Zealand was also a perfect place for them to experience great wine tasting coupled with unique food experiences. Suggested Length: 12 Days.
